I work about 70 hours a week as a restaurant manager. The pay is great. I have a pretty good group of employees. I’m just really tired. I can’t really take off work because I’m responsible for the restaurant, so I’m on-call in case something goes wrong. I like the work, but my wife is so angry about the fact that I’m always at work. I miss a lot of family gatherings. If I’m going to have a better work and life balance, I need to look at changing careers.

I have two older sisters who went to college. One finished college and is not even working in the field that she studied in. The other dropped out because she hated the classes. I don’t want to make those same mistakes. I’m in my second year of college, and now I realize that I need to change my major. I need some help figuring out which direction I should take. I don’t want to waste money or time, but I don’t want to continue in what I’m doing either.

I started working for an ad agency about 10 years ago. I am very good at my job, but I don’t really like it. I hate my new boss. I hate being pressured to lie to clients. I hate being pressured to turn product out so quick that it doesn’t go through full editing. I want to use my skill to make great things. I’m stuck in this career. I’d leave it if I could. I’ve always dreamed of owning a bar. One time I even made promotional materials for my dream bar. I’d love to figure out how to live that dream, but right now I’m stuck.

I got a business degree. I couldn’t find a job in my career field right out of college, so I kept my part-time job at the coffee shop. I finally got promoted to manager after 5 years. I thought I would really like being in charge. I hated it. Then I transferred to a different location and took on more responsibility. I like working with the orders, inventory, and payroll. I hate managing employees! I have to find a career where I feel successful without managing people.
